ACADEMICS

“AOII encourages all members to excel academically and has many programs designed to assist women in achieving their academic goals. Expectations are high but the support provided by scholarship programs, academic development officer resources, and fellow members makes success attainable. The emphasis on these pursuits was instilled by the four founding members of AOII in 1897 at Barnard College of Columbia University in New York, and this commitment remains a strong part of AOII today.”

Academics are an important part of Alpha Omicron Pi and the Nebraska Greek Community as a whole. The GPA for Sororities and Fraternities at UNL averages higher than the University wide GPA. AO∏ got second place for two consecutive semesters in GPA ranking for all women Greek chapters for the Fall semester of 2011 with a 3.579 GPA and the Spring semester of 2012 with a 3.561. We are very proud of our girls and their great study habits! We want to reward AO∏'s academic excellence, and to do so we offer over $11,000 in scholarships each year to our Zeta members. We also have Test Files, with past sisters notes, exams, and papers from a variety of classes to ensure any member helpful studying. Our house also has a computer room filled with computers and printers, wirelesses Internet throughout the house, and guaranteed 24-hour quiet study time.
Besides Test Files, AO∏ offers Professor Evaluations, which each girl in the house turns in evaluations of past Professors recommending which classes to take and what to expect out of them. Along with Professors Evaluations AO∏ offers Major Matches, which collects all the girls in the house with the same Majors to ensure there is always someone to study with!
We love to awards our sisters as much as we can, especially when it comes to excelling at academics, so each Monday at meeting we pass around the Traveling ‘A’ Cup. This is where any girl in the house who received an ‘A’ on a exam, quiz, or paper that week puts her name into the cup. Then we pick a name and someone wins a little prize for excelling in their class that week! We also hold a Scholar Dollar Auction at the end of each semester. Throughout the semester girls turn in weekly study hours, and we turn those hours into “money!” The more you study the more money you have at the Auction to bid on Coach Purses, cute jewelry, and much much more!
Alpha Omicron Pi always wants to recognize our members who go above and beyond in class and their academic career. To do this we acknowledge them at Monday Meeting for earning awards, internships, or scholarships. We also hold a banquet each semester to recognizing all Zeta members who earned above the all house GPA of 3.5 and higher. At our Scholarship/Academic Banquet we recognizes our sisters who receive a 4.0 each semester with a Perfect Panda award!
After a full semester of studying hard the AO∏ Parents Club rewards us with delicious treats during Dead Week and Finals Week so we can all take a much needed break from studying and enjoy some delicious snacks.
Academics are a big part of Alpha Omicron Pi, and we do everything we can to ensure our members great success here at UNL.
